Please oppose the new bills (H.R. 1492 and S. 832) that would make it harder for Medicare to negotiate lower drug prices for American seniors and taxpayers.

Medicare is finally beginning to negotiate lower prices, getting a much better deal for patients and taxpayers. Unfortunately, these bills would delay when the highest priced drugs are eligible to be negotiated, letting pharmaceutical manufacturers continue to set outrageous and unjustified prices and then raise them every year.

Across political parties, giving Medicare the power to negotiate lower drug prices is wildly popular. Voters know it will save them money and finally add some commonsense to the way Medicare pays for medicines.

Americans’ hard-earned tax dollars have supported the research and development of nearly every FDA-approved drug in the past decade. And yet, Americans continue to pay far more than patients in other countries for the exact same medicines, made in the exact same overseas factories. It’s a broken system that is deeply unfair to the American people.
