Oppose Mandatory Time of Use Electric Rates

If Connecticut pursues mandatory time-of-use electric rates, it will increase electric rates for older residents on fixed incomes.

The mandatory policy would force residents to use electricity at off peak times like early in the morning or late at night to get the lowest rate. Electricity use at peak hours would result in much higher rates.

Older adults are more likely to be home during peak hours. Many are also on fixed incomes. They may need to run medical equipment during peak hours or to care for family members who require heating and cooling during such timeframes.

Mandatory time-of-use rates can leave them with unaffordable bills to run essential heating and air-conditioning during peak periods. The decision to participate in a time-of-use rate program should be left to the individual ratepayer.

Please urge your legislators to oppose mandatory time-of-use electric rates.
