AARP Massachusetts is committed to fighting fraud and protecting people's hard-earned money. In 2025, the FBI reports that Americans lost almost $390 million to scammers via Bitcoin ATMs. And only 15% of victims ever report, so we know that's just the tip of the iceberg. There are over 500 of these machines in Massachusetts. Serious cryptocurrency investors don't use them because they charge ridiculously high fees.

So who are they for? Scammers! Crooks who lie and deceive their victims into giving over their life savings. They serve no good purpose and they don't belong in our communities.
