Thank you for supporting the Net Equity program
High-speed internet is no longer a luxury, it is a necessity. Many residents, especially older ones count on high-speed internet for tele-health, to stay connected to distant loved ones and to combat social isolation.
In Connecticut, cost is the top barrier to having access to high-speed internet. Cheap high-speed options for most residents are limited. Only 27.5% of Connecticut households have access to a high-speed plan under $60/month; the average price paid is just under $77/month.
That is why AARP urged legislators to pass legislation to make affordable internet service available to those who need it most.
Starting in September of 2026 internet service providers must allow eligible individuals to subscribe to high speed internet that is capped at $40 a month.
