Expand Tax Relief for Oklahoma Caregivers
Every day, thousands of Oklahomans care for spouses, parents and other loved ones, helping them remain in their own homes rather than enter costly long‑term care. Yet 47% of family caregivers report financial setbacks, taking on debt, draining savings or struggling to afford basics like food and medicine.
Their commitment allows loved ones to stay in familiar surroundings, but the rising costs they incur make providing this care increasingly challenging. AARP Oklahoma is fighting to bring real financial relief to family caregivers who need and deserve support.
House Bill 4118 by Rep. Tammy West and Sen. Chuck Hall would update the state’s existing Family Caregiver Tax Credit so it reflects the real needs and expenses that caregivers face today. The bill would expand the credit to include mileage for medical transportation, remove the age requirement, update the caregiver income cap to reflect current economic realities and ensure all eligible caregivers can access the same maximum credit of $3,000.
This bill will be voted on soon by the Oklahoma House of Representatives. Please tell your representative: Vote yes and support HB 4118 to provide family caregivers with meaningful financial relief.
