Stand with AARP Oregon to Ban Cryptocurrency ATMs

These Machines Are Fueling Fraud. It's Time to Stop Them.

A cryptocurrency kiosk (or crypto ATM) is a machine that converts cash into digital currencies, such as Bitcoin.

Located in convenience stores and gas stations, they are used by scammers to steal money from victims. The kiosk companies are profiting, keeping up to 35% of the money deposited. Nationally, in 2025 the FBI reports victims lost $389 million through kiosks, but most victims do not report this crime because they are ashamed or embarrassed.

One Oregonian's Story: After scammers convinced an Oregon woman that hackers had taken over her computer and bank accounts, they directed her to deposit $13,000 into a cryptocurrency kiosk and eventually stole hundreds of thousands of dollars. She says the criminals used fear, urgency, and secrecy to manipulate her into believing her money was at risk.

The Solution: Following the lead of other states, AARP Oregon is introducing legislation, supported by law enforcement and the banking community, to ban cryptocurrency kiosks in Oregon. These machines are basically the getaway car in crimes.

Join the Fight: Every day that these machines remain in Oregon, more people are at risk of losing their savings to sophisticated scams. AARP Oregon is building a statewide movement to ban cryptocurrency kiosks and stop this fraud before more Oregonians become victims. We need your help!
