Stand with AARP Washington to Ban Cryptocurrency ATMs

Crypto ATMs Fuel Fraud. Washington Must Act.
Scammers use cryptocurrency ATMs to pressure people into sending money through transactions that are fast, difficult to trace, and nearly impossible to reverse. Once the money is sent, victims have little chance of getting it back.
Washington residents want decisive action. In a 2026 AARP survey of Washington residents age 50-plus, 90% said protecting consumers from cryptocurrency kiosk fraud is important, and 68% supported a full statewide ban.
The need is urgent: 87% know little or nothing about crypto ATMs, and only 26% feel confident they would know what to do if targeted by a cryptocurrency scam.
Several Washington communities have already banned these machines, but every resident deserves that same protection, regardless of ZIP code. A statewide ban is the clearest and most effective way to stop scammers from exploiting crypto ATMs, and AARP will introduce legislation to remove crypto ATMs from the fraud equation.
