Oppose Xcel's Unfair Rate Proposal

Xcel Energy wants to raise your rates!

On Wednesday, February 2, the North Dakota Public Service Commission (PSC) held public input sessions on the Xcel Energy natural gas rate proposal that could raise customers' utility bills by as much as 15%. The budgets of many North Dakotans are stretched thin by the high cost of medicine, housing and food. AARP North Dakota provided comments on the proposal during the public input session. You can read the comments here.

Even if you weren't able to participate in the public input sessions YOU still have time to share your concerns with the PSC. AARP will continue to fight for consumers like you on utility rates in our state but we need YOUR help.

You can take action NOW to fight this rate increase. Share your thoughts with the Public Service Commission before February 9. Raise your voice before they raise your rates!

Dear Decision Maker,

I am an Xcel Energy customer who is concerned about Xcel's proposal to raise my natural gas rates. I am asking you to reject their proposal.

Xcel Energy should not be allowed to request that the customer charge be increased from $18.48 to $24.28 a month. The current charge is already too high.

Additionally, the proposal unfairly targets residential payers like me. The overall increase is 10.5% but my utility bill could increase by as much as 15%. That isn't fair and residential payers should not bear most of the increase. Why isn't the increase shared equally by all of Xcel Energy's customers?

Please oppose the unfair Xcel Energy residential natural gas rate hike proposal.

Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,
