I am one of your constituents, and I’m asking you to remove the discriminatory age cap on the Earned Income Tax Credit.

The Earned Income Tax Credit is a successful antipoverty program. Working people 65 and older should not be shut out from it based solely on age.

Workers 65+ have weathered so many economic challenges these past few years. They should not be hit with a tax increase for staying in the workforce for added financial security or simply to make ends meet. As more and more people 65 and older need to stay in the workforce, we should not penalize them with a tax increase. The age cap on the Earned Income Tax Credit isn’t just outdated, it’s blatant age discrimination.

When the age cap on the Earned Income Tax Credit was temporarily suspended, about 2 million people 65 and older were able to finally see some relief. Now, those same workers will see tax hikes—many of them low-wage workers.

As your constituent, I urge you to support legislation that will remove the age cap on the Earned Income Tax Credit permanently for the economic security of millions of workers 65 and older across the country.
