TAKE ACTION!
Cryptocurrency ATM/Kiosks are found in many public places and resemble traditional bank ATMs. While they can be used for legitimate transactions, they have limited consumer protections in New York when using these machines, making them increasingly attractive to scammers.
Fraud schemes often involve criminals posing as government officials or trusted businesses and claiming there is an urgent financial problem. Victims are instructed to buy cryptocurrency at a kiosk and then transfer it to the scammer’s crypto account. These funds are often impossible to recover.
Bill S.9891 (Sanders) / A.10899 (Vanel) would strengthen consumer protections around cryptocurrency kiosks, helping to protect vulnerable older adults and other New Yorkers from financial exploitation.
