A new bipartisan bill introduced in Congress could help offset the cost of caregiving by providing a federal tax credit of up to $5,000 to family caregivers who qualify. People who care for loved ones provide BILLIONS in unpaid care every year, even using their own income to help their family members age at home. This bill could help support the over 48 million people across the country who are the backbone of our long-term healthcare system.

Taking care of a loved one takes time, effort, and money. Caregivers spend on average more than $7,200 of their OWN income while caregiving each year, and they routinely cut back on their own health care or dip into their savings in order to cover these costs. The Credit for Caring Act could bring some much-needed relief to eligible caregivers.

There are over 48 million people across the country who care for a loved one, and without them, our long-term healthcare system would collapse. Family caregivers save taxpayers $600 billion in unpaid labor a year by allowing their loved ones to live independently in their homes.  Caregivers need common-sense solutions that bring them support. I urge you to vote in favor of the Credit for Caring Bill so that caregivers across the country can get some much-needed financial relief.
