Housing for All Californians

California’s housing crisis affects residents of all ages—but older adults are especially vulnerable due to fixed incomes, mobility challenges, and limited housing options.
That’s why AARP California thanks Governor Newsom, Senator Wiener, and Assemblymember Wicks for championing and authoring Senate Bill 607 and Assembly Bill 609. AB 609 speeds up housing approvals in existing neighborhoods, helping build more homes faster. SB 607 updates outdated rules to make it easier to build safe, affordable, and accessible housing. Together, these transformative housing reform bills support AARP’s vision of livable communities for people of all ages—where older adults can live independently, safely, and with dignity.
AARP California is proud to support policies that expand housing options and promote affordability. But the work isn’t done—we need your voice—sign the Housing for All Pledge today to join the fight to help make California more livable for all.
