I Support Tax Relief for Iowa’s Unpaid Family Caregivers
Every day, more than 330,000 unpaid family caregivers in Iowa assist their older parents, spouses, siblings, grandparents, and other loved ones so they can live independently in their own homes – where they want to be.
Iowa’s family caregivers provide roughly $5 billion in unpaid labor each year, helping with everything including medications and medical care, meals, bathing and dressing, chores, finances, grocery shopping, transportation and much more. Some are on call 24/7 and many work full or part-time and also care for children. On average, family caregivers spend $7,200 a year out of their own pockets on care-related costs.
Family caregivers need support – commonsense solutions such as a caregiver tax credit, that will save them time and money.
