Invest in Older New Yorkers

TAKE ACTION!

Tell City Hall to support a $2.3B investment to help New Yorkers age with dignity.

New York City’s older adults built the communities we all rely on, but today, too many are struggling to make ends meet.

Despite making up 20% of the population, programs that support older New Yorkers receive less than 1% of the city budget. Meanwhile, the number of older adults living in poverty has increased dramatically, and demand for services continues to grow.

That’s why AARP New York and aging advocates are calling for a $2.3 billion investment in the city budget to support older adults and the families who care for them.

Take action now - send a message to the Mayor and your city council member.

What we’re calling for:

$500 million for nutrition and wellness

  • Expand home-delivered meals
  • Increase funding for meals at Older Adult Centers
  • Improve outreach to connect older adults to SNAP

$800 million for community support

  • Invest in Older Adult Center infrastructure
  • Expand mental health services
  • Combat social isolation

$1 billion for affordable housing

  • Build and preserve senior housing through the SARA program
  • Protect residents in HUD 202 buildings
  • Expand SCRIE to help older adults stay in their homes

Why it matters:

These investments help older New Yorkers:

  • Stay healthy and independent
  • Avoid hunger and isolation
  • Remain in the communities they helped build

They also support family caregivers and reduce reliance on costly institutional care.
