The top priorities for AARP Virginia going into 2026 are supporting family caregivers and ensuring that people can afford the medicine that they need. We will accomplish these by pushing for legislation in the 2026 General Assembly session that will:

1. Establish a paid family and medical leave program for Virginia workers

2. Create a prescription drug affordability board that can set upper payment limits on certain high-cost medications

A poll conducted in the summer of 2025 found that these issues are strongly supported by Virginians across party lines. 83% of Virginians support paid family and medical leave and 84% support creating a prescription drug affordability board.
