Protect Your Medicare Choices Now!

Choosing a Medicare plan is one of the most important decisions older adults make. A law passed in 2023 will soon help older Minnesotans choose the best Medicare plan for their needs. Unfortunately, some lawmakers want to  repeal this law. We need your help to keep it in place and ensure older Minnesotans get the health care coverage they need.

Repealing this law would make it harder for Minnesotans to switch from Advantage plans to traditional Medicare with a supplement and deny coverage to those with pre-existing conditions.

This law will help more Minnesotans get the coverage they need. But some lawmakers want to repeal it or add a 10% lifetime penalty for switching plans. A study by the MN Department of Commerce predicts that by 2030, over 162,000 Minnesotans will lose their right to switch to a Medigap plan if the law is repealed. Taking away older Minnesotans’ consumer choice is simply unfair.

Act now! Contact lawmakers and demand they protect Medicare choices for older Minnesotans.

Protect Your Medicare Choices
Dear Decision Maker,

I am very worried about the plan to repeal our state law that lets older Minnesotans choose the Medicare plan that works best for them, including Medicare Supplemental plans. If this law is repealed, many people will lose access to these plans.

When this law takes effect next year, more Minnesotans with Medicare will be able to choose the plan they need without being denied coverage, usually because of pre-existing conditions. A study from the Department of Commerce shows that more than 162,000 Minnesotans won’t be able to switch to a Medigap plan if the law is repealed.

But some lawmakers want to repeal it or add a 10% lifetime penalty each year for those who switch plans. Both ideas are unfair and do not help consumers.

Please remove this harmful policy from the Commerce omnibus bills and protect our state law that gives older Minnesotans more choices with their Medicare.

Thank you.
