Millions of unpaid caregivers are struggling to assist their older loved ones with daily living tasks while also financially supporting themselves and their families. Our outdated long-term care system offers little support to seniors and the family members devoting time taking care of them.

As your constituent and an AARP member, I’m asking you to pass legislation that provides direct relief to family caregivers.

Millions of caregivers are struggling to assist their older loved ones with daily living tasks while also financially supporting themselves and their families. The unpaid care family caregivers provide is valued at $470 billion annually -- and on average, caregivers incur costs close to $7,000 a year out of their own pockets on medical treatments, devices, and care needed for older loved ones.

The COVID-19 pandemic laid bare the chronic problems in America’s care system, proving the need to provide seniors with choices when it comes to how, when, and where they receive high-quality long-term care.

Caregivers and seniors aren’t the only ones suffering -- the economy is too. Investing in family caregivers will strengthen our economy for years to come: In 2030, U.S. GDP would see growth by an additional $1.7 trillion, consumer spending would increase across industries by 7%, and salaries and wages would rise by 5.6%.
 
I urge you to work with other members of Congress and pass legislation that would provide much-needed support to our family caregivers. The Credit for Caring Act will help alleviate the financial stress of family caregivers, putting money back into the pockets of these hardworking Americans.
