AARP Arizona is standing up to Tucson Electric Power’s latest proposal to increase electric rates – an unjustified hike that would raise bills by an average of $14 per month, or 14% annually. Now is the time to make our voices heard. We urge residential customers like you to speak out and ensure the Arizona Corporation Commission understands the real impact these increases will have on Arizona households.

TEP’s proposal would:

Increase residential rates 14% on average.

Transfer $148 million dollars from TEP customers to the utilities’ shareholders.

Create a new process that would put annual rate increases on autopilot and take away the customer’s voice.

Limit stakeholder (like AARP) review of utility finances.

Many older Arizonans are already struggling to afford the essentials. Raising electric rates now would be a major blow to their pocketbooks.

I urge the Arizona Corporation Commission to stand up for residential customers and oppose TEP’s proposal to raise our rates. Affordability matters and the Commission must consider the impact utility rates have on people across Arizona. The ACC is constitutionally obligated to regulate monopoly utilities in Arizona – you are the “checks and balances”. I urge you to allow only reasonable and prudent TEP expenses and to reject any policy that allows for an annual adjustment in rates.
