Stand Against Age Discrimination in Medicare Choices

Minnesota recently became the only state in the nation with a government-imposed age limit on guaranteed issue and lifetime penalties on Medigap plans during open enrollment. This threatens Medicare choices of older Minnesotans.

Under this new law:

Minnesotans over age 70 lose guaranteed issue rights and can be denied coverage due to pre-existing conditions. People ages 65–70 who purchase a Medigap plan outside of their initial enrollment period will face a lifetime penalty of up to 35%. These changes make it harder for older adults to switch from Medicare Advantage to Original Medicare with supplemental coverage.

Writing age discrimination into state law is unacceptable. More than 162,000 Minnesotans could be affected, limiting their ability to choose the coverage that works best for them.

Add your name and pledge to join the fight! Show lawmakers you believe older Minnesotans deserve choice, fairness, and access to the Medicare plan of their choosing.
