Vote YES to fight fraud

A recent AARP survey found that nine in 10 Americans encountered a fraud attempt in the past year and at least one in six of them lost money as a result. One out of five older adults are victims of financial exploitation and the average victim loses $120,000. The impact on victims and families is wide reacing and can be both financially and emotionally devastating, especially for older adults.

According to a 2022 Federal Trade Commission (FTC) report, consumers lost more money in scams through cryptocurrency than any other payment method in recent years. The report found that consumers lost over $1 billion in crypto to scams since 2021 alone, with a median reported individual loss of $2,600.

In 2025, the ND legislature is considering a bill that would help prevent cryptocurrency fraud. Your legislator needs to hear from you.

Fraud is a serious crime, and criminals increasingly target older adults for fraud using a variety of financial products and services such as cryptocurrency kiosks/ATMs.

Older adults are often targeted because they are seen as having wealth, such as retirement savings. But we also know that when older adults are exploited, the impact can be especially severe because many victims have reached a time in their life when they are least able to recover financially.

Fraud and other financial crimes, such as cryptocurrency fraud, can create real financial devastation. You can help by supporting HB 1447 that provides robust oversight and enforcement related to cryptocurrency kiosk/ATM fraud.
