Stop Utility Rate Hikes

In February of this year Oklahoman’s experienced a major winter storm. Over a period of a few days the wholesale cost of natural gas jumped from a just a couple of dollars to several hundred and even into the thousands of dollars. Now utility companies like PSO, OG&E and ONG are claiming you the ratepayer owe them billions of dollars. Most Oklahomans were unaware of the soaring price of natural gas and none were given the option to avoid these charges.

The Attorney General of Oklahoma and the state legislature is investigating why this happened and if price gouging laws were violated. In the meantime, several utility companies are filing applications with the Oklahoma Corporation Commission to raise your rates to start collecting the billions of dollars they say you owe. Your statewide elected corporation commissioners need to hear from you. Please take two minutes to send them an email today to let them know that passing all of those outrageous costs on to you is not okay.

Dear Commissioner,

I am concerned about the skyrocketing cost of gasoline, food, medicine and now my electricity and natural gas. While I understand that the weather was unusually cold, I was never given a choice to choose to pay or not to pay these absurd prices. As you begin reviewing requests from utility companies to raise my rates I ask that you do everything in your power to make sure we are not being taken advantage of and keep my utility rates as low as possible.

In most cases, I have a choice on whether or not to pay a price for something. With the storms, not only did I not have a choice, I wasn’t even informed that my bills could sky rocket. Please do not hold ratepayers accountable for the many missteps made by the utility companies.

Keeping my electricity and natural gas reliable and affordable is the most important thing you can do as an elected official. I appreciate your support in protecting me from having to bear the burden of all of these outrageous costs.

Sincerely,
