Montana’s population is aging at an unprecedented rate. Older Montanans are projected to be an increasing portion of Montana’s population, especially those over age 65. Policymakers need to plan for this shift.

As the 2025 Montana State Legislative Session gets underway, please support Montanans 50+ by prioritizing the following issues:

• Tax relief for Older Montanans (including property tax)
• Support family caregivers 
• Renew Medicaid Expansion
• Fight elder abuse and financial fraud

Montana’s population is aging at an unprecedented rate. Older Montanans, especially those over age 65, are projected to be a larger portion of our state’s population. Policymakers need to plan for this shift in demographics by enhancing services and infrastructure in our communities so Montanans can continue to be independent and engaged residents of our state.

AARP Montana recently released the results of a new survey finding that an overwhelming majority of Montanans age 45+ want to see property tax relief, among other tax relief options. Independent living and long-term care are also priority issues – 85% of Montanans age 45+ wish to stay in their own home as they get older.

These same issues are important to me as well.  Please prioritize solutions that address these critical aging issues in Montana.
