Tell Governor Christie: Don't give PSE&G a blank check.

AARP is fighting to protect you from unfair electric and gas rate hikes.

AARP believes that strong utility industry oversight, transparency, and accountability are necessary to prevent utility companies from dramatically increasing your home electric and gas bills.

New Jersey residents already pay the 7th highest residential electricity rates in the nation. And the utility companies want you to pay more. Currently, approximately $8 billion in requested utility rate hikes are being considered by New Jersey state officials.

AARP believes that consumers like you want and deserve to know if utility companies have been spending money wisely and managing operations effectively. After all, it’s your money.

Electric and gas customers need to be assured that they are paying fair and affordable prices.

Dear Governor Christie,

Please help ensure my electric rates are fair and affordable. I know that our utility infrastructure might need to be upgraded, but New Jerseyans should only pay for projects that are cost-beneficial and actually improve reliability- and not a dime more. Consumers should only pay for utility cost overruns associated with recent extraordinary storm events that were prudently and reasonably incurred, not for storm recovery costs that could have been avoided with appropriate planning, management, and on-going maintenance and system improvements.
