Thank Governor Tomblin and West Virginia legislators for supporting family caregivers!

The West Virginia Legislature passed—and Governor Tomblin signed—an important bill that will help over 300,000 unpaid family caregivers take better care of their loved ones.

The West Virginia CARE Act will allow patients to designate a caregiver when admitted to the hospital if the patient so desires. The designated caregiver will be notified before the patient is discharged and the hospital will consult with the caregiver on how to care for the patient after he/she returns home. AARP worked with Arkansas hospitals to make this happen, and we appreciate their cooperation.

Governor Tomblin and West Virginia legislators in supporting passage of this important law demonstrated that they stand behind West Virginia’s silent army of family caregivers.
