Approximately 35,000 people are waiting for supports and services to remain at home

Did you know that 90 percent of people in Louisiana tell us that they want to remain in their own homes and communities as they get older?

However, approximately 35,000 people who want this choice have currently been sitting on a waiting list for at least three years to receive the care at home that they want and deserve. Unfortunately, this list is only growing longer by the day.

Will you take a minute to send an email to your legislator and tell them to support fully funding the Community Choices waiver slots including the 272 slots that are currently frozen? This decision will allow Louisiana adults to continue to live independently at home as they grow older.

Tell your legislator to restore funding to HB 1 and fully fund the 272 Community Choices waiver slots that were frozen and protect home- and community-based services.

Dear [Decision Maker],

The Governor's budget froze 272 Community Choices waiver slots from the Office of Adult and Aging Services within DHH.

These Community Choices waiver slots must be restored to allow more adults to live independently in their own home as they age.

Otherwise, even more people in addition to the current 35,000 people will remain on a waiting list to receive care in the home and community setting of their choice.

We can't take additional steps backward by cutting services and eliminating choices for the 90% of Louisianans who want to stay at home.

Please restore the 272 Community Choices waiver slots to House Bill 1, which is currently being debated in the Senate.

Thank you.
