NJ Needs Pay Equity

Pay Equity is Important for ALL of US

S992, which passed with bi-partisan support and only awaits the signature of Governor Christie, means women can better support their families now, and their financial futures later

AARP supports efforts to eliminate all barriers to women’s employment and ensure equality in employment opportunities, pay, and benefits. Yet in 2014, female full-time workers made only 79 cents for every dollar earned by men, a gender wage gap of 21 percent.

And the gender pay gap is worse for minority women. In 2012 they earned just 54 percent of the median annual earnings of white men.

Women across the Garden State are working multiple jobs, while still caring for their own children, or for older family members. Many are single moms, meaning the entire financial burden of keeping their households afloat falls squarely on their shoulders. But with faced with the reality of the numbers above, many women simply cannot make it.

And if they can’t meet their financial needs of today, they certainly are not going to be able to save for their retirement, and ensure a financially secure tomorrow.

That’s why it’s so important that Governor Christie enact of S992.

Please send a message to Governor Christie.

Urge him to sign S992 and do the right thing for New Jersey's women and families.
