Vote YES to Increase Access to Retirement Savings!

The expectation of a comfortable retirement is no longer a reality for far too many Virginians. Instead, thousands face the risk of running out of savings after they retire. Nearly 1.3 million Virginians lack a way to save for retirement at work. As a result, people are more likely to rely on Social Security as their only source of retirement income. We need your help. Delegate Torian and Senator Ruff have introduced bills to increase access to payroll deduction IRAs. 73% of surveyed voters agree elected officials should set up a state run retirement savings plan so all workers can have the opportunity to save for retirement. Tell your Delegate and Senator that you think so, too! The bills, referred to as a “Work and Save” plan, are at no risk or cost to the employer and give employees access to easy, portable retirement savings accounts. Work and Save accounts make it easier for workers to grow the additional savings they will need to live a secure and independent future. Giving employees a simple way to save for retirement will mean fewer Virginians will need to rely on government safety net services, which will save taxpayer dollars. Accounts are voluntary. It’s up to employees to decide if they want to participate and when employees switch jobs, they can take their Work and Save accounts with them. Contact your Delegate and Senator and tell them you support Delegate Torian and Senator Ruff's Work and Save bills!

Vote YES to Increase Access to Retirement Savings!

Dear [Decision Maker],

The expectation of a comfortable retirement is no longer a reality for far too many Virginians. Instead, thousands face the risk of running out of savings after they retire.

Delegate Torian and Senator Ruff have introduced bills (House Bill 2204 and Senate Bill 1076) to increase access to payroll deduction IRAs. Workers are 15 times more likely to have an IRA if it is offered by their employer. 73% of surveyed voters agree elected officials should set up a state run retirement savings plan so all workers can have the opportunity to save for retirement.

We need to promote financial freedom and make it easier for workers to grow the additional savings they will need to live a secure and independent future. This will save taxpayer dollars because fewer Virginians will need to rely on government safety net services. The state and the employer are not responsible for an employee's gains or losses in the market.

Accounts can be voluntary so it's up to employees to decide if they want to participate. And when employees switch jobs, they can take their accounts with them.

Please vote yes on House Bill 2204 and Senate Bill 1076 to increase access to retirement accounts through payroll deductions.

Sincerely,
