Dear [Decision Maker],

Please support Minnesota consumers by opposing HF 1665. For over 100 years, telecommunications in Minnesota have been protected by the Public Utilities Commission. This bill would eliminate those protections and leave consumers at the mercy of large corporations more interested in the bottom line than in customer satisfaction.

Without these protections consumers will lose in three key ways:

- Affordability: Deregulation does not spur competition or make phone service more affordable. History has shown that in states where deregulation has passed -- places like Illinois, Texas, and California-- prices have risen.

- Reliability: Consumers will lose the guarantee that service quality rules are in place to ensure that outages are fixed promptly and phone service is not disconnected.

- Accountability: Other protections such as truth and billing and protections against unauthorized charges would also be eliminated. Consumers would no longer have a state regulatory body to call for assistance.

Please protect strong regulations and consumer protections that ensure we can get a fair price for phone service and get it repaired in a timely manner.

Sincerely,
