Please Support Family Caregivers.
This week, the State House Health Committee is scheduled to consider an important bill to support family caregivers and allow more people to age in their own home. Please consider adding a personal message in your email - your experience is important and powerful!
The Health Maintenance Tasks bill gives a medical professional (M.D., APRN, R.N.) the ability to delegate certain maintenance tasks to a paid personal aide. These are health maintenance tasks that are often performed by family members, who have no professional training, for their loved ones every day in their own homes.
Right now, paid personal assistants cannot help with these tasks. Therefore, if a friend or family member is not available, a nurse is required to come to the person’s home.
Allowing health maintenance tasks to be performed by paid personal aides could mean the difference between a person receiving safe and cost-effective care at home or being forced into a care institution.
Please join us in support of family caregivers across Tennessee, and this important bill.
By taking action you will join AARP's online network and will receive urgent news and action alerts about the issues that matter the most to older Americans, as well as information about AARP activities, events, and member benefits.
Dear [Decision Maker],
Please support of the Health Maintenance Tasks bill (HB968). This measure would help alleviate some of the basic healthcare activities caregivers perform. It allows a medical professional (M.D., APRN, R.N.) to delegate certain basic healthcare tasks to a paid personal aide. Currently, paid personal assistants cannot help with these tasks, so if a family caregiver is not available, a nurse is required to make a home visit.
Sincerely,[Your Name] [Your Address] [City, State ZIP]
