Dear [Decision Maker],

Thank you for partially funding the Office of Health Facility Complaints (OHFC). Recent news coverage highlights horrific stories from families whose loved ones were harmed at senior living, home care, and long-term care facilities. As result, too many older adults suffered amputation of limbs, bruising, abrasions, physical and sexual abuse, and even death. This is alarming and should not be happening.

A well-funded OHFC is necessary to prevent elder abuse from happening. Elder abuse, neglect, and exploitation are often described as a "hidden epidemic" because too many cases of abuse and neglect are unreported. It's very troubling that is a fourfold increase in reports of maltreatment. This could be the tip of the iceberg so it's critical that Minnesota makes an investment to the Department to help resolve existing complaints and prevent future abuse from happening.

Please fully fund the Office of Health Facility Complaints to the level proposed under the Governor's budget. Stand up for Minnesota's most vulnerable older adults.

Sincerely,
