Support the CARE Act
Every day, about 317,000 Iowans are helping an aging parent, a spouse, or other loved one live independently at home by supporting them as a family caregiver in various ways.
A recent AARP Iowa survey found that 50% of Iowa family caregivers reported leaving the hospital without a demonstration of the medical care they needed to perform at home. These unpaid family caregivers have a huge responsibility and we can take some common sense steps that would make the world of difference for them.
That's why AARP Iowa is urging the Iowa State Legislature to pass the CARE Act in 2018. The CARE Act would help family caregivers when their loved ones go into the hospital by ensuring:
The CARE Act has been passed in 39 other states/U.S. territories who have prioritized better support for Iowa caregivers and the loved ones they provide care.
