Help New Mexicans Save for a Secure Retirement

Over 60 percent of New Mexicans working in the private sector don't have access to a retirement savings plan through their employer. Without their own retirement savings, many New Mexicans will have to rely solely on Social Security for their retirement and with an annual benefit of $13,980, it's just not enough.

We know that Americans are 15 times more likely to save if they can do it right out of their regular paycheck. With the New Mexico Saves Act, SB392, more hard-working New Mexicans will get the chance to do just that.

Under New Mexico Saves, employers will have access to a state facilitated retirement savings option and a new online marketplace where they can easily find and compare retirement savings plans for their employees.  More importantly, more New Mexico workers will finally get the chance to start growing the savings they need right out of their paycheck.

It's time to make saving for retirement easier on everyone and ensure that our workers have a secure retirement.

New Mexicans Need Retirement Savings Options

Dear Senator  [Decision Maker],

Approximately 62 percent of New Mexicans who work in the private sector have no access to a retirement savings plan through their employer. That equals 336,000 New Mexicans who must find another way to save for retirement -- but research shows that most of them don't.

That is why I am asking you to support Senate Bill 392, the New Mexico Saves Act, which establishes two options for employers to provide a retirement savings mechanism for their employees -- through a private-sector marketplace and a state-facilitated retirement savings option.

Please vote yes on SB392 and yes to helping New Mexicans save for retirement. Without access to a workplace retirement savings option, too many individuals will turn to the state for the additional assistance they will need to make ends meet. We can help them take the necessary steps for a secure retirement.

Sincerely,
