We are in the Midst of a Long-term Care Crisis; One that will Continue to Grow with Future Generations.

Studies show that 70% of Washingtonians 65 and older will require some type of assistance to live independently as they age. Yet most haven't saved enough, and long-term care insurance is too expensive for 90% of us. Because of this many older adults must spend their life savings before turning to Medicaid to help pay for their long-term care needs.

The Long-Term Care Trust Act is a sustainable and financially sound solution to the growing long-term care crisis. The policy will ensure Washingtonians and their families don't have to spend down into poverty to access the long-term care we know that 7 in 10 people over the age of 65 will need.

The LTCTA would create a public long-term care program, providing Washingtonians with flexible and meaningful benefits ensuring families can choose the care setting and services that best meet their loved one's needs.  Based on a payroll premium of just over one half of one percent (.58%), vested and eligible employees would receive $100 a day with a lifetime benefit of $36,500, which will increase over time with inflation.

Our Senators have a significant opportunity to help bring peace of mind and increased economic security to Washingtonians when it's needed most.

Ask your Senator to tackle the state’s long-term care coverage crisis head-on by voting YES on HB 1087, the Long-Term Care Trust Act.
