Thank you Governor Walz for protecting Minnesotans

Every week, the Minnesota Department of Health receives approximately 400 cases of abuse and neglect of Minnesotans in assisted living facilities and nursing homes.

Governor Walz recently released his budget which includes more funding for the state to inspect assisted living facilities. It also begins the process to license assisted living facilities, provides residents and their families protections against retaliation, and includes funding to appeal arbitrary discharges.

Write Governor Walz today and thank him for his leadership on this important work.

Dear [Decision Maker],

It's been well over a year since we learned of the widespread abuse in Minnesota's assisted living facilities and nursing homes. Last year, lawmakers failed to pass meaningful legislation that would have established stronger protections for vulnerable adults in long-term care facilities.

Thank you Governor Walz for committing to assisted living licensure and funding for protections against arbitrary discharges.

It's critical that the licensure of assisted living facilities happen and that vulnerable adults must have immediate protections from retaliation and arbitrary discharge.

Thank you for your leadership on this issue. Minnesotans and their families cannot wait any longer. They're counting on you to protect them!
