Tell Your State Senator to Support Family Caregivers

Your state senator needs to hear from you NOW.

LB 311, the Paid Family and Medical Leave Insurance Act, provides paid leave for Nebraska workers to care for themselves or a family member with a serious health condition, a new child, or a military family member preparing for or returning from deployment.

Nebraskans need workplace flexibility so they can care for their loved ones without putting their jobs and finances at risk. As the state’s population ages, more Nebraskans will have to care for aging family members.

LB311 may be up for a first-round vote in the Nebraska Legislature as early as Monday, March 18.

Please send a message to your state senator RIGHT AWAY. Urge him or her to vote YES on LB311.

Paid Family and Medical Leave Insurance Act

Dear [Decision Maker],

I'm writing to ask you to vote YES on LB311. Nearly two in three family caregivers in the workforce are caring for a relative age 65 or older. Nebraskans should be able to care for their family members without worrying about losing their income.

Nebraska caregivers and their families shoulder significant financial burdens, providing an estimated $2.5 billion annually in uncompensated care. Their contributions allow people to age in place, in their homes and stay out of long-term care facilities, resulting in substantial savings to state coffers.

Thank you for considering support of LB 311. Your support for paid family and medical leave will help Nebraskans stay in the workforce and also provide essential care to their loved ones. By supporting Nebraska's family caregivers, the state also saves taxpayer dollars on costly nursing home care.

Sincerely,
