Tell Your State Senator: Do not override Governor Northam's veto of subprime health care plans!

Virginians of all ages deserve to have the prescription drugs they need at prices they can afford. It would be unfair to allow some health care insurance plans to be offered in Virginia without prescription drug coverage and other essential health benefits.

Legislators return to Richmond April 3rd for final votes. Tell your Senator to preserve Governor Northam’s veto of subprime health care plans.

Do not override Governor Northam's veto of subprime health care plans

Dear [Decision Maker],

I urge you to protect Governor Northam's veto of subprime health care bills.

Senate bills 1027, 1240, and 1674, and House Bill 2260 undermine an individual's right to quality, affordable, and comprehensive health care coverage. These bills would result in many Virginians being insured without essential health benefits such as prescription drug coverage.

Additionally, health care plans authorized under these bills would be allowed to discriminate against individuals with pre-existing conditions and impose lifetime and annual caps. These bills also fuel adverse selection that would increase premiums, negatively impact insurer competition, and destabilize the individual health care market.

Virginia must continue to take positive steps to increase the availability of quality, affordable, and comprehensive health care coverage including prescription drugs. I urge you to uphold Governor Northam's veto of subprime health care plans.

Sincerely,
