It’s Time to Stand up Against Age Discrimination in Oregon.

AARP sponsored a bill this legislative session to stop age discrimination in employment in Oregon. Unfortunately, it died in committee. We think it’s unacceptable and ask you to help us in encouraging the legislature to take action on this important issue this year. The financial and retirement security of older adults depend on the ability to work as desired. People of all ages should be judged on ability, not on age.

Tell your representative to fight age discrimination. The most impactful letters are personal, so feel free to include why this issue is important to you.

Dear [Decision Maker],

As a member of AARP Oregon, I was dismayed to learn that HB 2818 to strengthen age discrimination in employment, died in committee. The bill had broad support and essentially brings age discrimination into line with the protections for other workers. I'm sure you'll agree with me that Oregon should not tolerate sexism, racism or ageism in the workplace. All forms of discrimination must be rooted out of our society.

I hope I can count on you to work toward creative solutions to move this issue forward this year.

Sincerely,
