Help AARP New Mexico Thank Our Lawmakers For Supporting Lower Prescription Drug Costs

Too many New Mexicans struggle every day with how to afford their prescription drugs. Some even have to choose between medications and everyday living expenses like groceries and utilities.

Meanwhile big drug companies continue to charge Americans the highest prices in the world for the medicines they need. It is time for this to stop.

The creation of the Interagency Pharmaceutical Purchasing Council, Senate Bill 131, is an important step in helping lower prescription drug costs. The bill, sponsored by Sen. Jeff Steinborn and Rep. Joanne Ferrary, creates an interagency purchasing council to study cost-containment strategies to lower drug costs across state agencies. Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham signed the bill into law on March 28th.

At AARP, we know there is more work to do. But every step toward ending the anti-competitive practices of big drug companies and lowering prescription drug costs should be saluted. Join AARP in thanking these lawmakers for their work on this important issue.
