House and Senate Pass Elder Abuse Protections, thank your legislators today!

Almost two years ago, we learned that the Minnesota Department of Health receives approximately 400 cases of abuse and neglect of vulnerable adults in assisted living facilities and nursing homes. This week Minnesota's lawmakers stood up for older and vulnerable adults and passed legislation to protect them.

Thank your legislator for voting to protect Minnesota's seniors.

Dear [Decision Maker],

Thank you for voting to protect Minnesota's seniors.

The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) receives approximately 400 case of abuse and neglect of vulnerable adults in assisted living facilities and nursing homes. HF90/SF8 will address the number of abuse and neglect cases reported to MDH.

The bill, signed into law by Governor Walz this week, requires assisted living facilities to be licensed, establishing high standards to ensure residents, including those with dementia, receive the care they need and deserve. Under this new law, older and vulnerable adults will also have stronger rights including protections against arbitrary discharge, an immediate prohibition of retaliation against residents in long-term care facilities, and more.

Thank you again for your support on this critical issue. This bill brings Minnesota closer to making sure Minnesota's older and vulnerable adults are free from abuse and neglect.

Sincerely,
