Thank You!!!

Thanks to a new law, Illinois seniors will now be better protected. The Illinois Nursing Home Residents’ Quality of Care Initiative will enforce staffing guidelines, heighten transparency of nursing home violations, and enhance safeguards for use of antipsychotic drugs.

AARP Illinois and its members fought hard for this legislation to protect our state’s seniors and their families.  We’re proud and thankful that our leaders made protecting Illinois’ most vulnerable older adults a top priority.

The new initiative protects nursing home residents by:

  • Strengthening voluntary, informed consent requirements before a nursing home resident can be administered a psychotropic drug
  • Calling for the education of nursing home staff on the policies and procedures related to these voluntary, informed consent laws and regulations.
  • Providing appropriately strong remedies for violations
  • Requiring the Illinois Department of Public Health to verify and enforce current state law on compliance with minimum staffing in nursing homes
  • Providing strong remedies for minimum staffing violations.

We are grateful to you for raising your voice on this important issue in a way that will make a difference.

Please take a moment to help us also thank the legislators who listened to our concerns and voted to bring about change.
