On May 9th, Governor Lamont's administration released a Public Health Order requiring nursing homes to offer alternative forms of visitation (such as window visits and video conferencing) while in-person visitation is prohibited due to COVID-19. The full Order is available here.
Please take a moment to thank the Governor for this important action and to encourage him to prioritize the health and safety of nursing home residents and staff as Connecticut continues to respond to COVID-19.
Thank You for Supporting Virtual Visitation in Nursing Homes
Dear [Decision Maker],
Thank you for your administration's Order requiring nursing homes to offer and facilitate virtual visitation and window visits. Making sure that residents stay connected to their loved ones is important all the time, but it is especially important during this time when in-person visitation cannot take place. Social isolation has a profoundly negative impact on both physical and mental health, and the May 9th Order issued by the Department of Public Health is an important step in helping nursing home residents maintain relationships with their loved ones.
As you know, older adults and individuals with underlying health conditions are especially vulnerable to COVID-19, and nursing home residents account for more than half of all COVID-related deaths in Connecticut. As Connecticut continues to respond to this public health emergency, please ensure that the safety of nursing home residents and staff remains a top priority. It is critical that facilities are able to provide testing and have the personal protective equipment needed to keep residents and employees safe.
Although there is still work to do to ensure the safety of nursing home residents and staff, having access to virtual visitation and window visits will help residents stay connected to their loved ones and provide peace of mind during this difficult time. Thank you again for your administration's May 9th Public Health Order and your efforts to keep nursing home residents connected to their loved ones.
Sincerely,[Your Name] [Your Address] [City, State ZIP][Your Email]
