More than 39,000 residents and staff of nursing homes and long-term care facilities have died of COVID-19. This represents over 40% of all COVID-19 deaths across the country.

The coronavirus is having an absolutely devastating impact on seniors and workers in nursing homes and other long-term care facilities.

According to a report in the Kansas City Star on April 26, at least 70 percent of Johnson County COVID-19 deaths have been nursing home residents across the county.

With most inspections of nursing homes suspended, family in-person visits prohibited, and in-person long-term care ombudsman visits restricted, there are now fewer eyes observing what is happening in these facilities.

Residents of nursing homes and other residential care facilities may be unable to advocate for themselves and now have limited access to people who can advocate on their behalf.

With the lack of oversight, we need to ensure resident and their families will still have access to the courts to seek redress for any care issue

Tell your legislator, "Don't grant immunity related to COVID-19 for Kansas nursing homes and care facilities!"
