Protect New Jersey's Property Tax Relief Programs!

Dear [Decision Maker],

I am writing to urge you to fund New Jersey's critical property tax relief programs - the Senior Freeze and Homestead Benefit programs. New Jerseyans, particularly older residents living on low, fixed, moderate and middle-income, cannot afford to pay higher property taxes.

Many New Jerseyans struggle with high property taxes in the best of times. Older workers and retirees have been especially hard hit in the face of the coronavirus' health and economic crises. Older New Jerseyans are facing a double whammy of unprecedented job losses, depleted savings and reduced retirement account balances.

In fact, 40 percent of Americans recently said that they couldn't cover an unexpected $400 expense. Communities of color are disproportionately impacted. Too many are currently struggling to afford basic necessities like food, utilities and medicine.

Cutting property tax relief programs will mean hundreds of thousands of vulnerable New Jerseyans will have to pay higher property taxes. In some cases, almost $1,300 more per year - threatening their ability to remain in their homes and communities as they age.

Don't raise New Jersey's already high property taxes for those who can least afford it. Fund the Senior Freeze and Homestead Benefit Programs now.

Thank you.

Sincerely,
