ELECT 2018

3 Things You Need to Know About Elect

The ELECT Act helps family caregivers balance caring for their loved ones and their jobs. Here’s what you need to know:

  1. The Eligible Leave for Employee Caregiving Time (ELECT) Act allows working caregivers to use their existing personal sick leave to care for a family member.
  2. Leave can be used when a family member is sick, injured, or has a medical appointment.
  3. Under ELECT, sick leave can be used to care for a child, spouse, domestic partner, sibling, parent, mother-in-law, father-in-law, grandchild, grandparent, or stepparent.

AARP Illinois fought for the ELECT Act so Illinois workers can care for a loved one without fear of losing their jobs.
