Retirement Tax Repealed!

Thank Legislators for voting Yes on HB 4001

During January and February of this year, AARP members sent nearly 14,000 emails to their state legislators telling them to vote YES to repeal Michigan's Retirement Tax.

And it worked!

Thanks to you, the Michigan Legislature finally passed HB 4001 to repeal Michigan’s Retirement Tax, and Governor Whitmer signed the bill into law on Tuesday, March 7.

Surprisingly, the bill passed by the narrowest of margins, with only 56 YES votes in the Michigan House, and 20 YES votes in the Senate.

Because of that, it's especially important to thank the legislators who stood up for Michigan's retirees and voted YES. And it's also important to make sure the legislators who didn't support the bill know that we are paying attention.
